Lesbian Houston

Finding a good dentist can be hard enough, finding one that caters to the Houston lesbian and gay community can be even more difficult. It is not that the dental work is any more or less difficult; it is simply that not all dentists in Houston are open minded. You will find that there are dentists that are sensitive to the gay and lesbian communities and their needs; you just have to be prepared to look a little harder. One thing that many people do not realize is that the Houston lesbian and gay community is actually quite large. Their needs are no different than anyone else's and dental work must still be performed on a regular basis in order to maintain good oral health and overall physical health. If you want to stay health you should visit your dentist at least twice a year for a regular cleaning and checkup. This way if anything is becoming a problem your dentist can help take care of it as soon as possible. Most people, no matter whether they are straight, gay or lesbian in Houston tend to put off going to the dentist for as long as possible.

In many cases a person may not set foot inside a dentist's office until they are in significant pain. By the time this happens the damage done to the teeth and gums can be severe. By visiting your dentist on a regular basis you can avoid these problems. Not only will he perform a routine visual examination, but he will x-ray your teeth to see if there are any problems forming where they cannot be seen. Perhaps the reason so few dentists are willing to work with the Houston lesbian and gay community is their fear of HIV/AIDS. If they are properly trained and take the appropriate precautions this should not be a problem. While the diseases can be transmitted through bodily fluids, when your dentist is wearing the appropriate protective clothing it should not be an issue. No dentist should ever work on any patient no matter what their sexual orientation is without being properly protected. Not only does this protect the dentist, but it protects the patient at all times.

There are unfortunately still old fashioned attitude problems that have to be dealt with when it come to finding a dentist in Houston for lesbian and gay patients. The general public is slowly learning to accept members of the gay and lesbian community quite openly, but there are those in the medical community that still balk at treating them as patients. This does not mean you cannot find reputable dentists who are more than willing to treat members of the gay and lesbian community; it just means you may have to look a little harder. If you are a member of the Houston lesbian or gay community and are looking for a good dentist to take care of your dental needs, look no further than Bruce Smith DDS. His practice was established in 1981 and catered almost solely to the gay and lesbian community. Today his practice takes great pride in offering the best possible dental services to everyone regardless of sexual orientation including many families.
