Dentures and partials may take some adjusting for your mouth and lifestyle. It is perfectly normal to experience some discomfort and sore spots initially. If sores persist past a few days, we invite you to return to our office for any adjustments.
While your mouth adjusts to the new addition of teeth, speaking and chewing may feel unnatural for a time. We encourage you to eat only soft foods for the first few days, such as yogurt, pudding, mashed potatoes, and soups. Reading aloud can help your mouth acclimate faster.
Although your dentures or partials are synthetic, they should still be treated as your natural teeth. Brushing your dentures or partials twice a day with a denture toothbrush will help prevent staining and remove any buildup of food particles and bacteria. Our dentists can also recommend denture cleansers. Please do not neglect your gums and tongues, as these are still susceptible to gum disease and halitosis. Removing your dentures at night and placing them in a glass of water will help prevent warping.
Whether you have received dentures or are considering them as a restorative option, we invite you to contact the office of Bruce W. Smith, DDS at 713-529-4364. Dr. Smith and Dr. Carrell will sit down with you to discuss your concerns and questions about receiving dentures in Houston, Texas.
